The Brickyard Barn Inn's
Ingredients:
Directions: Optional additives: You can increase the nutritive value of your smoothies by adding other ingredients; some will affect taste, others will not. You can vary the fat and sugar content easily as well. (Note: since a smoothie is not cooked, you can use artificial sweeteners.) Be creative. Additives to try: wheat germ, uncooked oatmeal, bran cereal, protein powder, low or nonfat milk replacing part of the juice, molasses (adds iron), brewer's yeast (extra protein), spirulina or chlorella (vitamins), flaxseed oil (omega-3 fatty acids), or bee pollen (amino acids). Amounts to add will vary on the additive choice, how many servings of the smoothies you are making, and your taste. Typically for the recipe above you would add anywhere from 1 tablespoon to 1/4 cup. Substitutions to try: Bananas, mango, different juices, honey, sherbet, sorbet, vanilla ice cream, frozen berry mix, etc. Let your refrigerator decide what to add. You might try to make a vegetable smoothie with V8, tomato, clamato juices and some raw vegetables. Be creative. |
